Thursday, April 23, 2009Coach/Cop Arrested for Biting Football Player on Nose How does something like this happen? Upset with your team's play? Maybe you punch a wall or a kid, kick a locker or something, but bite a kid on the nose? You'd think the CSI guys would be able to extract your DNA from the wound, but maybe I've been watching too much TV lately. Of course, the coach/cop denies it happened, but something like that would be hard to cover up, wouldn't it?A Lake Wales police officer and football coach has been charged with battery after he allegedly bit a player on the nose last fall. Burney Hayes is a police sergeant and junior varsity football coach at Lake Wales High School.Lake Wales Football Coach Accused Of Biting Player [CF News 13]
According to reports, Hayes bit the player because he was upset with the way his team was performing during a game in October. The boy, who was 15 years old at the time, told an investigator that he was scarred and embarrassed after the incident.
Hayes denied that he bit the boy, and said he didn't do anything inappropriate. The Polk County State Attorney's Office says several students have testified that they saw Hayes bite the alleged victim.Labels: biting, naughty coaches
Monday, April 06, 2009Baseball Coach Resigns After Taking Players to Strip Club Well, it was a road trip! And, to be fair, the boys were likley over 18. But, then again, taking players from your team to a gentleman's club is probably NOT the best team-building exercise you could come up with. Here's more on the story from KGW:Lincoln High School varsity baseball coach Michael Todd has resigned his position effective immediately with Portland Public Schools, the district announced. The resignation comes amidst allegations that he accompanied three Lincoln baseball players to an 18-and-over strip club while the team was in San Francisco for a spring break baseball tournament.
Portland schools spokesperson Matt Shelby said he believed all three of the players were over 18 years old. The district is forwarding the case to a commission on teacher practices and ethics for further review even though Todd, 25, resigned before the district had a chance to investigate the claims, Shelby said. Todd cited "personal reasons" for his resignation, which came on Friday. Two other volunteer coaches also resigned over the incident, the school district said.Labels: naughty coaches, strip club
Friday, April 03, 2009Texas Football Coach Breaks Paddle Spanking Boy Who Quit Team, Wanted to Return Only 21 licks to get back on the team? Doesn't seem like a lot until you hear that the paddle broke in the middle and had to be duct taped together to continue the "licking." You gotta love Texas HS football, don't you?
Here's more from the Houston Chronicle:A high school football coach beat a student so severely with a "canoe paddle" that the wood board cracked and had to be taped so the "licking" could resume, a Dallas school district report said. The Lincoln High School student suffered severe bruising and welts to his lower back, upper thighs and buttocks and was referred to a doctor for treatment, according to the report obtained by The Dallas Morning News.
"The report, unfortunately, speaks for itself and is, to say the least, disturbing," Dallas schools spokesman Jon Dahlander said in Thursday's newspaper. Paddling is legal in Texas but prohibited in Dallas public schools. No criminal charges have been filed and school district police suspended their investigation because of a lack of evidence in the 2007 case.
The student received up to 21 strikes from then head football coach Jerry Sands after being removed from the team. Sands decided the student would have to endure the paddling to return, according the report. In an affidavit, Sands wrote that he wanted to help the student "make it in life." "It was never my intent to hurt (the student). If anything, I was trying to help him," he wrote.Labels: naughty coaches, paddling
