Friday, April 17, 2009Little League Coach Arrested for Selling Drugs, Having Gun Well, at least he wasn't having sex with an underage girl! The real question here is: how did the league hire a guy with more than 22 other prior arrests ranging from disorderly conduct to theft and assault. So what about those background checks everyone's supposed to do? This league says they can't afford them! Here's more from WKRG:Mobile Police arrested Marlon Wade this afternoon. Authorities say he had over $24,000 dollars worth of Cocaine and a gun. The 35 year old has been coaching youth baseball with the Saraland Baseball Association for the past six years. At the same time Police say he's run up a wrap sheet with 22 arrests, ranging from disorderly conduct to theft and assault. The S.B.A. says they rely on the honor system because they can't afford to do background checks."It's expensive to do them, but that's not an excuse. We have 150 coaches in the baseball park. I talked to some independent agencies. It's 40 dollars per coach to do a background check, so you're talking about six thousand dollars. We don't get City funding," said Todd Edge, Commissioner for the Saraland Baseball Association.Labels: little league coach
