25438.jpg (18228 bytes)Danton's Agent Denies He Was "Acquaintance" NHL Player Wanted Killed - Despite claims from law enforcement insiders that put him at Mike Danton's apartment the night the "hit" was supposed to go down, Dave Frost insists he was not the person Danton was afraid would "leave him" and would tell St. Louis Blues management about his "drinking and promiscuity." (Yeah, like the Blues would give a rats ass about that.) At right, a photo of the only agent named Dave Frost listed on the NHL Player's Association web page.
BadJocks Exclusive! Danton's Agent Has Checkered History in Hockey
-
Our crack research team has uncovered a lengthy 1999 article by then Toronto Sun sportswriter Steve Simmons that goes into great detail about the havoc Dave Frost (then a coach/agent/manager) was creating in the Canadian minor league hockey system a decade ago. Is he the real troublemaker in this whole "murder for hire" scam? Ironically, mentioned in the article is a young player named Mike Jefferson--Danton's real last name before he changed it . . . while under Frost's alleged control. Among other things, Frost is described as a cult figure, manipulative, and controlling . . . even being accused of brainwashing the players under him. Our favorite quote from the article comes from Rob Ciccarelli, owner of the Sarnia Sting, who met Frost when Danton/Jefferson played for his team, "The guy is a lunatic. What worried me is he had a cult-like attraction for the player. I have never in my history seen anything like that. The kid (Danton) totally did everything that Frost said. It was shocking." At one point, Danton was part of a four player "gang" that Frost coached and managed and all lived with him in a hotel room when they played for St. Mike's Majors OHL team. According to the article, after the 1993-94 season, the Ontario Hockey Association wanted to suspend the ENTIRE Brampton junior franchise for what it described as "incredibly undisciplined and unruly play." The head coach at the time--you guessed it--Frost. In 1997, Frost pleaded guilty to assaulting one of his own players during a playoff game while an assistant coach with the Quinte Hawks of the Metro Junior Hockey League. The article goes on and on like this, which begs the question: What the hell is going on here? Read the entire article here. (See below for earlier stories.)

NHL "Murder for Hire" Update: Danton Cried, Didn't Want Male Acquaintance to Leave Him After Quarrel -
The story of St. Louis Blues forward Mike Danton--charged last week for in a murder-for-hire scheme--gets stranger by the minute. Fortunately, our friends at TheSmokingGun.com have the actual criminal complaint filed against Danton, detailing the entire bizarre "Hit the Hitman" plot. See if you can follow this: Danton calls a female friend and tells her a Canadian hitman is in his way down from the Great White North to settle some kind of debt and asks her if she knows anyone who can hit the hitman. Her friend agrees to do it for $10,000, but here's the catch: Danton wants the Canadian hitman murdered in his apartment and wants this guy to make it look like a tag-team burglary gone bad! Turns out though that the "Canadian hitman" is actually a live-in acquaintance of Danton's who quarreled with him earlier in the week over his "drinking and promiscuity." When the murder plot ultimately fizzled, the acquaintance/roommate called Denton (while being taped by police) and asked why he wanted him killed. According to the complaint, Danton broke down and cried, and said felt he was backed into the corner and didn't want the acquaintance to "leave him." You can read it all for yourself here. Trust me on this one folks, this one's going to get a lot worse before it's over.

I Fought the Ty Law: New England Patriots Star Flees Police, Doesn't Want to Be Touched - New England Patriots cornerback Ty Law was arrested after he was stopped by police, then allegedly ran away from them though a popular nightclub district. Coach Gets Slap On Wrist for "Assault" on Parent - Ernest A. Clark, former girls basketball coach at Dover High School, in New Hampshire received a small fine that was suspended pending good behavior for an alleged attack on the father of one of his players after a game earlier this year. However, the case could still be re-opened after a videotape was given to the court that clearly shows that the man who pressed charges against Clark, Joseph P. Gagnon, had displayed "exactly the kind of rage that we don't want at sporting events" and offered "extreme provocation" during the Dover-Exeter game.

Colorado Football Sex Scandal Update - The young woman who accused a University of Colorado football player of raping her back in 2001 now claims she did not pursue charges because she was intimidated by coach Gary Barnett.

More Trouble for Texas HS Baseball Team - Just this month the Waxahachie High School baseball team was disqualified from the Texas HS playoffs this season AND NEXT YEAR after a brawl during an April 2 game against Alvarado. Waxahachie was already on probation for an incident involving its fans at a game LAST SEASON. Now, four Waxahachie High School baseball players have been arrested on charges of sexual assault, in an incident involving a 15-year-old girl that occurred at a party earlier this month. For it's part, the only thing the school could boast about was that the assault "did not occur on school property." Yes, that makes it all better. (Link requires free registration.)

NHL Murder-for-Hire Update: St. Louis' Danton indicted for plot to kill

#100! Wow! Can we hit 200 by the end of the year? Stay tuned. And now, on to our 100th High School Coach Sex Scandal of 2004: Damon Mark Carpenter, the girls' basketball coach at Southern California's Fontana Kaiser High School for the past five years, was arrested on suspicion of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old female student at the school. Danton's Father Now Says "I Sold My Soul to the Devil" When I Introduced Son to Dave Frost - Mike Danton's father, Stephen Jefferson, now thinks it was a mistake to put his son under the influence of hockey coach/agent Dave Frost back when the boy was only 11. They signed a deal with the devil when Danton was only 15 and two years ago, someone (Frost?) convinced him to several all ties with his family, even dropping the family name and taking Danton instead. Jefferson now blames himself for his son's current troubles, saying "I fell in love with the thought of my son becoming a hockey player and I looked the other way. I put the full blame for this on myself."

Hooker Charged With Stamping - No, it's not what you think: a rugby player in the UK, Tani Fuga, has been banned for the rest of the season for stomping on an opposing player during a game last week . . . which is odd because I thought that's how you got points in rugby. Or am I thinking of dodgeball? Speaking of dodgeball, I saw a preview for the movie "Dodgeball" starring Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn last weekend and I predict it will be the sports movie of the summer . . . unless this Bobby Jones thing take off this weekend.

Corruption in Portugal's National Soccer League? Say It Ain't So! I know, I'm sure all of you are as stunned as I was when I heard that news that police in Portugal had arrested 16 referees and soccer executives-- including the chairman of the country's league-- in a major corruption probe amid allegations of match-fixing, including forgery. I'm not sure about you, but I may never look at European soccer the same again.

After Almost Three Years, Still No Charges in the Infamous "Banana Up the Butt" Hazing Incident in New Hampshire - Remember the story about the HS football player who claims that upperclassman dragged their testicles over his face, then pulled his pants down and tried to jam a peeled banana in his rectum? It's sounds strangely similar to the Mepham Hazing incident from last fall, but it's been almost three years since Matthew Weymouth, came forward to say that older football players at Pentucket Regional High School in New Hampshire were hazing him and other teammates in August of 2001. The lead detective from the state police who investigated the case thinks three of the young men should have been charged with attempted sexual assault as a felony for one of the alleged hazing rituals and that four or five other team members should have been charged with misdemeanors. And yet, no charges at the local or state level have ever been filed in the case. Fed up with waiting, Weymouth's mother plans to file a lawsuit against the Pentucket Regional School District. Original lawsuit story from January 2002.

Friends say Posh has privately confided to them that she is considering a "trial separation".
More Bad News - Third woman claims affair with Becks.- Celina Laurie, a 27-year-old vicar's daughter, now claims she had sex with Beckham on August 7, 2002, in a hotel in the Danish city of Aarhus, after a Manchester United game there.

#96 - Robert Shawler, a California gymnastics teacher charged with 13 counts of child molestation, has resigned as a coach and part-owner of the Cal West Gymnastics school.

HS Football Coach Charged With DUI With Drunk Former Student in Car - Okay, it's bad enough when a coach gets stopped for DUI. But if you have an underage former student in the car with you who's also blasted, that's a new one. Vaughn Butler, a football and basketball coach at Union Local High School in Ohio was arrested for DUI driving back from a regional basketball playoff game in Athens last month.

Michael Vick is Gay? A hoax website is fooling people into thinking NFL star for the Atlanta Falcons has come out of the closet. It's actually quite convincing looking and a lot of people have e-mailed BadJocks asking us to confirm it. Yes, we can confirm you're an idiot. Read it for yourself here.

Soccer Spitter Suspended for Six, Seems Sensible to Some, Surely Shows Sport Still Sucks

Jayson Williams Manslaughter Trial Update - Judge refuses to throw out the case against the former NBA star despite prosecutors' failure to turn over photographs and notes on the shotgun that killed a limousine driver. On the plus side, he did call it a "negligent" error and will allow William's defense to reopen their case.

Ultimate Soccer Mom? Woman Forges Court Documents So Transferring Son Can Play for New High School - How far will a parent go to get their kid a college athletic scholarship? All the way to jail, it would appear. Let me see if I can explain this: soccer mom Gladys Kay Prescott, of Oklahoma City, had asked for an injunction against the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association that would have allowed her son, junior Joseph Prescott, to play for Putnam City High School. Joseph had transferred to Putnam last fall, his mother says, because it was "a better school" but OSSAA had declared him ineligible for this season. The injunction was also denied, but Mrs. Prescott somehow convinced school officials a court document that appeared to grant her request and looked official enough, so they allowed him to play. But upon closer inspection they noticed a few minor problems: the judge who allegedly signed it has retired from the bench; the words "approved by" were printed on the paperwork, along with the name of attorney Todd Markum (he knows nothing about the case) and the court clerk's stamp and case number appear to have been copied and then pasted on the forged document! Mom now faces a second-degree forgery charge for her efforts and the school may have to forfeit a tournament game for using an ineligible player. (Link requires minor registration.)
