Officials at the Disney World Resort in Orlando took the drastic action of booting more than 70 people in the middle of the night after a brawl broke out at a video arcade between rival Pop Warner youth football teams. The incident involved two teams from Hawaii and one from Baltimore and ended with a 15-year-old player in the hospital with a broken nose. Details on exactly what happened at the arcade at 1:30 am are still sketchy, but Disney officials didn't wait around for an lengthy explanation: everyone--including the player's families and anyone associated with the teams--had to leave the grounds immediately. That meant that at 3 am, resort officials had to wake up sleeping parents and young siblings, make them pack their bags and go stand in a parking lot while other accommodations were found for them. Said a Disney official, "This was unfortunate, but with thousands of guests staying at the resort, we have to maintain a safe environment for everyone. All participants were made aware of our strict zero-tolerance policy regarding any physical disturbances. Any teams involved in fighting are subject to disqualification and eviction. We were in direct consultation with both Pop Warner officials and law enforcement throughout the course of the event." (Honolulu Advertiser) Caught on Tape: HS Wrestling Program Suspended After Alleged Hazing Video Appears on--Where Else?--YouTube - Officials at Fleming Island High School in Florida are still investigating this one, but initial reports say that at least four wrestlers hazed freshman member of the team. Allegedly two of the older wrestlers stood by, while another one "dropped his pants and put his rear end in the freshman's face, and another one took pictures." Those pictures ended up online at YouTube, a parent saw them and reported it to the school. (My Clay Sun) Sri Lanka Has First Cricket Streaker - According to police in the island nation of Sri Lanka, an English cricket fan ran naked onto the field on Sunday during the first day of a match between that country and England. Despite their initial surprise, officers were able to catch the man and arrest him, marking the first time that a streaker has invaded a cricket field in Sri Lanka. After this guy is publicly caned, we think it will likely be the last. (IHT) HS Coach Arrested for Tying Up, Handcuffing Four Teenaged Girls and Then . . . NOT Having Sex With Them? - So far, there doesn't seem to be any sex acts involved, which only makes this whole thing sound creepier. Michael Anthony Smith, 51, was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, annoying children and sexual battery after cops say that the boyfriend of one of four girls involved reported him to school officials. Torrance, CA police Officer Dave Crespin could not explain the motive behind Smith's bondage activities, but claims that "(The students) allege that Smith has engaged in inappropriate activity with them, such as putting tape over their mouths, taping up their hands and feet, and handcuffing them. Thus far in the investigation, we've found no sex acts to have occurred." (Daily Breeze) Great Start to the Bo Pelini Era at Nebraska: Freshman QB Accused of Assaulting Dorm "Hall Monitor", Carrying Fake ID, and Oh Yeah, Blowing a .115% BAC - At about 1:50 am Sunday, a residence hall assistant on the campus of the University of Nebraska tried to get a visiting student to sign in as required. The young man refused, pushed the assistant and threatened him. When cops were called, the guy made a run for it but, like most Nebraska offensive plays this season, was quickly dropped for a loss and was apprehended. Police say that the kid turned out to be Patrick Witt, 18, a red-shirt QB for the huskers and that he showed signs of alcohol impairment. Witt was arrested on suspicion of disturbing the peace, trespassing, third-degree assault, minor in possession and possession of false ID. Unfortunately, his blood alcohol level was not enough to make the World Famous BadJocks BAC Rankings. Coach Pelini says the matter will be handled internally, which we're sure means he'll get what's coming to him. (KETV) Cops: HS Football Coach Showed Porn Video on His Cell Phone to Female Athlete, 17 - Not exactly your traditional motivational speech, but allegedly Chad Vance Draper, 29, a teacher/coach at Madison High School (North Carolina) whipped out his cell phone at school and showed a short porn video to a female student. She told her mom, who told the school, who told cops, who staked out Draper's home and waited for him to show up. He did, the ran in and grabbed his cell phone and found a 15 second clip of what they called "explicit pornographic video." Draper was charged with disseminating harmful material to a minor. (Citizen Times) Michael Vick Sentenced to Nearly 2 Years in Jail on Dog Fighting Charges, Admits to Hanging Two Dogs - Too much? Too little? Sounds just about right to me, so the question for the experts now turns to whether Vick will ever play in the NFL again. One new revelation: back on October 12, FBI agents gave Vick a polygraph test, during which the former Falcons QB admitted that he and co-defendant Quanis Phillips had hanged two dogs. Up until that point, Mike had always denied allegations that he participated in the deaths of any of the animals. (SF Gate) Penny Wise and Pound Foolish Legal Defense? Mr. Bulky, Barry Bonds, Makes Court Appearance on Perjury Charges Today - At 9 am PT today (noon ET) the temporary home run king will make his first public appearance since he was indicted on Nov. 15 and is expected to plead not guilty in federal court to four counts of perjury and one count of obstruction. Many have wondered how Bonds legal situation has gotten to this point, and even we have been surprised at what appears to be a poor legal defense over the past four years. (A bigger head obviously does not mean more brains.) And what about all the threats of lawsuits, from the guys who wrote the book that first exposed his alleged use of steroid, Game of Shadows, to the more recent comments by pitch Curt Schilling. None have been followed up on and his defense team seemed genuinely surprised by the perjury charges. Why? Well, according to a new article in the Wall Street Journal, you can blame Barry, or more precisely, some of Bond's inner circle who--despite the fact that they are not lawyers--seem to be giving him some bad legal advice. Case in point: Bonds asked top San Francisco defense lawyer John Keker to represent him in the federal perjury case, but expected him to handle it at a steep discount from the guy's standard $900 hourly rate. This, from a player who made nearly $60 million between 2005 and 2007. To add insult to injury, Bonds also reportedly insisted that Mr. Keker allow an out-of-town law firm review all of the legal bills before they were paid. (Yeah Barry, now's the time to pinch some pennies when your career and reputation are on the line.) Obviously Keker declined to play along, so Barry had to move further down the batting order to find a good lawyer. (Wall Street Journal) Gym Teacher Calls Dad and Allegedly Tells Him: Come Down and Give Your Son an Ass Whoopin' - Aaron "Coach" Jackson, a gym teacher at Paxon Middle School in Jacksonville, was charged with child neglect and encouraging someone to commit an act resulting in injury to a child after he allegedly called the father of a 13-year-old male student in his class and told him to come to the school with a belt to discipline the boy. According to the police report, the boy's father Henry Crimes, said that "Coach Jackson sent a child with his key to open the door so I could beat my child for misbehaving. I hit my son with the belt about twice and he fell down. I told him to get up. When he got up, I hit him some more, then he fell again. When my son got up again, I hit him a few more times, then I made him go to Coach Jackson to apologize …" Oh, and dad was arested on child abuse charges earlier this week as well. Maybe the two of them will get to share a cell for the holidays? (News 4 Jacksonville) "HS Coach Sex Scandal of the Year" Finalist? - If police reports are to believed, this guy had a unique way of seducing his young victims. According to cops, Tom Adame, a basketball coach at Foothill High School in Bakersfield was booked on two counts of "annoying or molesting" a child. Cops say that he "befriended two students who indicated that Adame informed them of a medical procedure he had undergone and offered to trace his penis on a paper to allow them to view." Smooth, very smooth. Both alleged victims are 15 years old and students Foothill High. (KGET) |
