Culpepper Apologizes to Viking Fans for "Love
Boat" Incident, Still Claims He Did Nothing Wrong - Nothing like a
half-hearted apology on the way out the door to Miami, right? In his email to
the media on Thursday, former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper
took responsibility for the incident, but still maintained his innocence, saying
“Without admitting to the ridiculous allegations, I do apologize for any
embarrassment that this situation has caused the community, the organization and
especially my family. I can handle the personal accusations because I know the
truth. I expect the legal process to clear my name so that I can move on.” (SignOnSanDiego)
New Hate Mail From the Kabaddi Crowd Just what we needed: hate mail from a fan of one of the most obscure sports
in the entire world. Yes, we admit that we don't quite understand all the
nuances of the game, but after reading the
rules and watching the videos, can anyone else come up with a better
description for the "sport" of kabaddi than "adult tag?" (A
joke we made in reference to another odd sport: killer kite flying--see
below.)
Here's the email: hi i read your comment about kabaddi on your mainpage
"We've covered stranger things here at BadJocks, like kabaddi which is basically adult tag"
i also noticed that the kabaddi text linked to www.kabaddi.org
have you seen the video clips at kabaddi.org? i suggest you take a better look
kabaddi is a lot different then "adult tag" it's more like rubgy without the ball or extreme wrestling
i admit there are some variations of the game that look a bit silly and are a bit like tag but the style played in the videos at kabaddi.org have a lot more contact and as funny as it sounds its demeaning to refer to the sport as adult tag
anyway nice site you have
take care.
Cricket "Journalist" Arrested for Gambling From
Press Box - My guess is that this doesn't happen very much in NFL stadiums:
a man who had press credentials, but not much journalistic skill, showed up in
the press box for the big India vs. England multiple day cricket match in the
town of Chandigarh. Many in the press didn't recognize him, but that wasn't the
problem. It became obvious over several days that Rajib Mulchandani, a British
citizen, wasn't really covering the event as much as he was gambling on it. In
plain site, officials with the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption
Unit content, Rajib was using his laptop to place bets on the games over a
period of three days. (Three days? Pete Rose was heard to mutter, "Amateur.")
Once his con was discovered, Rajib was forced to surrender the pass and was
thrown out of the stadium. He was later arrested at his hotel on forgery and
fraud charges. Local bookies are giving 2-1 odds that he's out of jail before
Barry Bonds admits he used steroids. (The

Killer
Kite Competition Banned - Kite flying as a sport? We've covered stranger
things here at BadJocks, like kabaddi
which is basically adult tag, but at least no one was dying in that silly
activity. For some reason, competitive kite flying has gone big time in Pakistan
with hundreds--if not thousands--of people gathering for an annual event that
pits one flyer against another to see who can cut the other's string first.
Simple, huh? It should be, but you know how competitive guys get with their
toys. In Pakistan, this "sport" has gotten so serious that
participants are adding wire or sometimes broken glass to their lines to keep
them from being cut and make it easier to cut someone else's string. (There's
apparently a small cottage industry that's sprouted up there with businesses
selling string that already has the broken glass imbedded into it.)
That's not a problem until these ultra powerful lines come in contact with the
necks of innocent bystanders and, well, bad things happen. So, officials are
trying to ban the annual kite flying event and some disgruntled citizens
are--we're not making this up--burning kites in protest in the streets. See
picture at right of kite riots. (Buffalo

Soccer Violence Video - Our clip of Allen Ray getting
his eye poked out proved so popular yesterday that we thought we would bring you
another. This clip is a montage of soccer violence, both accidental and
intentional. We counted at least three referees being punched, four broken legs,
and two guys kicked in the head. Our favorite is the guy who stood there for
several seconds like a cartoon character as play resumed around him before
collapsing to the ground. Complete with Eminem soundtrack. Enjoy!

Update: Panthers Cheerleader at Center of Drunken Lesbian Sex Bar Fight in
Florida is Sentenced - And no, there won't be any hard time in the pokey for
young blonde TopKat cheerleader Victoria Renee Thomas. There also won't be a
spread in Playboy or Maxim. However, the former cheerleader for the Carolina
Panthers of the NFL did receive--as part of a plea agreement--12 months on
probation, $400 in restitution, 50 hours of community service, participation in
an 18-month pretrial intervention program, and anger management classes. Thomas
must also not have any new arrests for the next 18 months (drunken lesbian sex
bar fights included) and cannot have any monetary gain from this case. (Tampa
Bay's 10 - link includes nice video clip from courtroom.)
Navy QB, Already Facing Rape Charges, May Have New Problems
- They are only into the military version of a pre-trail hearing, but things do
not look good for Navy quarterback Lamar Owens. Owens, who is already charged in
military court with rape, conduct unbecoming an officer and committing indecent
assault, may have also violated an order that he stay away from the alleged
victim. On top of that, investigators also claim to have found hundreds of
pornographic images on his academy computer. ((WUSA)

Update: Fan Who Attacked MLB Coach Violates Probation, Now Going to Jail - Anyone
remember this genius, William Ligue Jr., the drunk who gained infamy in 2002
when he and his 15-year-old son ran onto the field at White Sox Park and pummeled
Kansas City Royals first-base coach Tom Gamboa? (Maybe the sneering picture
at right will jog your memory.) Well, Mr. Ligue is finally going to jail for
five years for violating his original probation. Ligue and his fiancée were
arrested outside a restaurant back in April 2004, accused of breaking into a car
and ripping off its stereo. The thing that really pissed off the judge though,
was the fact that the inept Bonnie and Clyde duo then lead cops on a high speed
chase. If he's a good boy, Ligue will be out of jail in time to catch the 2011 World
Series. (Chicago

Randy Moss's Agent Caught With Crack - Surprised? Dante
DiTrapano, an agent for Oakland Raider Randy Moss, was charged with possession
of crack cocaine after police were called to a hotel to investigate a domestic
disturbance. According to police, the hotel's management called them to report a
disturbance in the couple's room and when officers entered they found the drugs.

HS Baseball Players Caught Hazing, Could Face Criminal
Charges - The old game of "let's jump on the freshman and beat them to
a pulp" is now apparently considered "hazing" at Wasatch High
School in St. George, Utah. According to reports, several members of the
school's baseball team have been suspended and could face criminal charges after
six victims were jumped on and pushed while the team was stating at a Best
Western Travel Inn. Police say the victims knew they were going to be initiated
and weren't sorry about what happened but vowed that next year the frosh would
get jumped on, pushed, and THEN given the dreaded purple nurple. (Okay we made
that part up, but you can just see it coming, can't you?.) KUTV

Janitors Accused of Watching Girls Change in Locker Room
- We're trying to decide if this is the low point or the high point for these
guy's career? Two custodians at Montgomery High School in New Jersey stand accused
of watching female athletes get undressed in the school's locker room. How did
they do that? According to a school spokeswoman, geniuses William Markell and
Krzysztof Ospelt allegedly snuck into a coach's office overlooking the locker
room on several occasions. Cheerleaders and members of the girl's basketball
team complained last month that the pair were leering at them during practice .
. . and now we know why. (WNBC)
Thieving Coaches: Let's Go to the Tape!
HS Basketball Coach Accused of Taking Money from Safe in AD's Office - Paul
Maljan, 55, the basketball coach at Penn-Trafford High School in Pennsylvania
resigned this week after being accused of stealing $1000 in cash from the
athletic director's office. Maljan was arrested on Feb. 28 on charges of
burglary, theft and receiving stolen property after cops say they caught him
on videotape taking money from a safe in the athletic director's office.
When arrested, police say that Maljan also confessed to taking another $1,700
from the safe earlier in the month. (Post

Gym Teacher Arrested for Stealing From Kid's Lockers - From our "We
Wonder Why This Doesn't Happen More Often" Dept: a gym teacher in Maryland
was arrested on theft charges after he was caught on a security camera
entering the locker room during class. An investigation was started months
ago when nine students reported money and jewelry missing from their lockers. In
addition to the video, police also found a list of the locker combinations in
Louis Michael Clark's grade book. (Baltimore

Arena Football League Players Accused of
Sexual Assault - Woman says she thought
there was "another party" at the hotel where the players were staying
when her friends ditched her at a gas station and she went back by herself and
three guys from the team. (Kansas

Former Top Horseman Jailed for Stealing Purses While Riding
Bike - Darren Newton was once on Britain's European championship showjumping
team, you know, one of those snooty guys who ride horses and probably wouldn't
give you the time of day. Apparently a drug problem got the best of Darren, he
was dropped from the team and eventually ended up starting a life of crime.
Putting his riding skills to good use though, Darren started snatching women's
purses while riding past them on a kid's bike. In at least one instance, the
former horseman made it easy for the victim to identify him after she watched
him he ride away taunting her by waving the bag in triumph. When police finally
caught up with Darren they found found a stash of credit cards stolen from each
of his victims and he ultimately admitted to four charges, although he was
implicated in as many as 16! (IC

Update: Dwight Gooden Does Cocaine, Ends Up Back in Jail - Former MLB
baseball star Dwight Gooden was re-arrested this week for a probation violation
after he told his probation officer that he had a relapse and recently used
cocaine. Unfortunately for Dwight, a drug test came up positive, and he was then
taken to a Florida jail where is being held without bond. Gooden was out on
probation for a 2005 DUI incident where he tried to flee police. (Tampa

Coach Asks Girl to Buy Her Weed Because She Was Sick &
"Stressed" - We're not keeping up with the latest medical
breakthroughs, but since when has smoking pot been know to ease the pain of
"immune deficiency illness?" That's what school teacher and girl's
tennis coach Laura "Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time" Smith, 38, is
trying to peddle to the press. According to police, Smith asked a 14-year-old
girl in her class at New Paltz to buy her some marijuana and she did, returning
the weed in a neatly wrapped present. Unfortunately, another student in the
class (possibly with a nose for hemp) figured out what was going on and told
school officials. For her troubles, the girl was suspended from school for six
weeks, while Smith faces a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a
child. In her defense, Smith admitted asking for the pot, but that she really
needed it because, "School was stressful. That is why I did something very
out of my character. I am a good person, but even good people do stupid
things." (Times
Herald-Record)
UPDATE: ESPN Forces YouTube.com to Pull Clip! Sorry
about that boys and girls, but we saw it earlier today and can verify the
following report is true:
EARLIER: Sports Video of the Week, Courtesy ESPN - It took us a
little while to find the video of this, but now that we have it, you'll be glad
we took the time. Earlier this week during coverage of NCAA basketball, ESPN2's
coverage team was having technical difficulties in the studio so the network
decided to switch over to ESPN News. The anchors at ESPN News, Robert Flores and
Danyelle Sargent are obviously flustered by the unexpected switchover to them
mid-broadcast and have trouble ad-libbing until the next b-ball clip is shown. Once that clip
is underway, you can hear both Flores and Sargent talking under it and, at the end
Danyelle can clearly be heard to say, "What the f uck was that!"
Outstanding! (Thanks to Fark.com for the tip!)
