Catholic School Scandal: Secretary Sues After Being Fired for . . . Dating Married Coach? - Lynne Creamer, 52, thinks she got a raw deal: after her employer, the prestigious all-boys' Catholic Chaminade High School in New York, found out she was having an affair with married football coach Donald Scarola and fired her. For some reason though Scarola, who ran a winning program, remained on staff. She also claims that the president of the school confronted her about the relationship saying, "You are an adulteress. I take exception to that." So, of course, Creamer has filed a lawsuit claiming alleged gender discrimination. In her defense, the former school secretary also says that Scarola was estranged from his wife at the time and pair are still together after 10 months. (New York Daily News) Judge Rules Teens Charged With "Deer Prank" That Seriously Injured Two Can Start Serving Sentence AFTER Football Season - We certainly wouldn't want these fine boys to miss out on playing football this fall, now would we? An Ohio judge probably never spoke truer words when he told Dailyn Campbell, 16 who plays for Kenton High School and 17-year-old teammate Jesse Howard, "I shouldn't be doing this, but I'm going to. I see positive things about participating in football." He then went on to delay their 60 day sentence for their role in a prank that caused two other teens to be seriously injured in a car crash so they could play football this season. Without going into great detail, the convicted due stole a fake deer from a neighbor, put it on some kind of cart, then hid it out on a country road where they would pull it out into the path of oncoming cars. One of those cars contained two other teenaged boys who crashed their car and were seriously injured (one has gone through 10 operations and the other has brain damage). Sixty days seems like a pretty light sentence to begin with and then to delay it so they can enjoy being heroes on the gridiron must outrage the victim's families. (Seattle PI) Thanks to Tony Taylor for the tremendous tip! Former NBA Player Arrested for Firing Gun Near White House - If you're going to blow off a little steam and shoot off your .40 caliber handgun, probably not best to do it at 2:30 in the morning a block or so from the White House. After the shots were heard early yesterday morning, a pedestrian flagged down a Secret Service agent and pointed out a white sport-utility vehicle (do NBA guys drive anything else?) driven by former Chicago Bull Lonny Baxter. After a brief search of the vehicle, cops found two shell casings on the rear floorboard and a loaded .40-caliber Glock pistol in the center console with six rounds still in it (it apparently can hold nine.) The 6'8" former Maryland star was formally charged with carrying a pistol without a license. (Chicago Tribune) Mascot Madness Returns! NFL Investigates Titan's Raccoon Mascot For Running Over New Orleans' QB With Golf Cart - It's been a little while since we had to report on a bad mascot here at BadJocks, so forgive us for not posting this story a little sooner. Apparently, at halftime of Sunday's pre-season game T-Rac--as the mascot is known--was driving around the field in a golf cart throwing souvenirs into the stands when the Saints were leaving their locker room. Of all the players T-Rac could have run into, he happend to make contact with the Saints promising back-up QB Adrian McPherson, who suffered a deep bruise on his right kneecap and will miss two more games. The NFL has launched a major investigation into the incident and will likely ban electric vehicles driven by small nocturnal mammals in the future. (SportsLine) Have Vikings Really Cleaned Up Their Act? Receiver Arrested for DUI - Less than a year after the infamous "Love Boat" incident, the Minnesota Vikings thought they had their act cleaned up. Almost. Now comes word that receiver Koren Robinson was arrested on charges of drunken driving and fleeing police officers in a chase that reached speeds of 120 mph at one point. If it had been Robinson's first brush with booze, it might not be so bad, but apparently he's already a member of the NFL's "Stage 3"level of the league's substance-abuse policy, meaning that another violation would result in a year-long suspension. (Chicago Tribune) #129! Youth sports coach arrested on child p0rn charges. (KFVS) BadJocks Update: Was HS Coach Brawl Related to Lopsided
Scores Last Season? - A very observant BadJocks reader (aren't you all?) saw
our story earlier this week (below) about a Connecticut HS football coach who
punched a rival coach at a pre-season weightlifting event. Reader Tony A.
wondered if the reason for the dust up might have been some scores that Coach
Jack Cochran and the New London High School team ran up against some opponents
last season. (Read
our report of an opposing coach "freaking out" and getting
arrested after getting behind 40-0 to New London last fall) According to stats
at USA Today, Cochran's teams won several games going away last season including
wins of 69-14, 77-6 and 90-0. Paybacks a bitch coach. (USA
Today) Dude! Texas HS Football Players Caught With, Like, 200 lbs of Weed - We usually don't report on stories of high school or college athletes caught with a little "personal use" pot in their cars. If we did, we'd have no time left to write about anything else at this site. But two football players from Texas when above and beyond the call of duty when highway patrol officers pulled them over and found 108 bundles of weed in their SUV, a total of more than 200 pounds of the stuff with a street value of more than $90,000. Said Officer Obvious of the Texas Department of Public Safety, "I'm pretty sure no college or the military is going to let you in to campus or the military, if you have a criminal record." Sleep well tonight Texans, sleep well. (WOAI) Judge: Reporters Who Wrote Barry Bonds Steroid Book "Game of Shadows" Must Name Grand Jury Leaker - Lance Williams and Mark Fainaru-Wada, two reporters from San Francisco Chronicle who went on to write the steroid tell-all book about Giants slugger Barry Bonds, have ordered to comply with a subpoena and reveal who leaked secret grand jury testimony of Bonds (and other jocks) involved in the government's probe of BALCO. If the don't, someone's butt is going to jail and it won't be Mr. Bulky's. (AP) BadJocks Effect Continues: SmartMoney Quotes Publisher Bob Reno in "10 Things Your College Student Won't Tell You" - Check out #5 "My résumé isn't the only thing I have posted on the Internet." We think we've disproved that one by now, don't you? (SmartMoney) Maurice Clarett Crime Spree Update: Lawyer for Former
Buckeye Claims He Was Beaten, Maced AFTER Being Handcuffed - And so, the

Ledger) #127! Another Online Sting Operation, Another Coach Caught - A girl's hockey coach from Minnesota was arrested this week on charges that he traveled all the way to Ohio to have sex with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl he had met on the Internet. Actually it was a couple of middle-aged cops who were doing one of those online stings that have become so common, and yet still so effective. (KARE 11) Thanks to Nicholas L. for the link! Former NFL Lineman Turned HS Football Coach Resigns After Tackling Smaller Player From Behind at Practice - Details are a little sketchy, but former Carolina Panthers lineman Kevin Donnalley resigned as football coach at Charlotte Christian week after an incident on the field that he's calling "inappropriate disciplinary action against a player." Other reports say the former NFL star--listed at 6'5" and 310 lbs during his playing days--became angry at a little 155 lb defensive back who wouldn't stop a contact drill even after the whistle had blown. According to witnesses, Donnalley took a running start from several yards away and hit his player from behind, knocking him to the ground. When two other players tried to help that guy get up, they were disciplined as well. And now Donnalley is no longer with the team. Ironically, just last month Donnalley and six other former Carolina Panthers were named by prosecutors in a case against Dr. James Shortt as having received illegal performance-enhancing drugs. Delayed 'roid rage, maybe? (Charlotte Observer) Police Officer Goes on Rampage at Golf Course Over High Greens Fees - Even in South Africa golfers get upset over the high cost of playing the game. A senior police officer in the town of Durban who started causing trouble at the local airport, then managed to make his way to a nearby golf course where he allegedly hijacked a cart--and the worker in it--and demanded that he be driven to the clubhouse where he threatened early morning golfers with his gun. (SABC News) HS Coach Sex Scandal #126! The First Rule of HS Football Sex Club: No Talking About HS Football Sex Club - In one of the strangest stories we've reported about so far this year, a football coach and a former student from Ozen High School in Beaumont, Texas have been indicted by a grand jury for sexual offenses against at least one female student. That in itself would not be that unusual, but testimony from the victim and other students revealed the existence of a secret sex club for football players known as The 3K. That stood for--we're not making this up!--the “Koochie Kissing Klique” (or "klick" or "klub" in some reports). It's alleged that former freshman coach Tommy Floyd Granger and former football star Byron Aaron Bell created the club to provide prominent senior members of the HS football team with access to young girls from the freshman class for sexual favors, primarily oral sex. One young lady joined the club, then had second thoughts several years later and told her mother which launched a police investigation into the matter. Grand jury reports now say that the 3K has been around since at least 2001and authorities allege that both Granger and Bell were believed to have committed sexual acts themselves with the alleged victim in the school's field house, the meeting place for most 3K "exchanges". They also expect other victims to come forward, now that the secret of the 3K has been broken. If convicted, both men could face up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. (The Examiner) Thanks to David foulch for the tip! BadJocks Effect Continues: Newspaper Finds Pictures on Facebook of U of New Mexico Jocks Holding Beers, Talking About Being Drunk - Everyone wants to get into the act now! With college kids set to return to campus in a matter of days, various local media outlets are starting to tap into the online incriminating photo bonanza know as Facebook.com. All you need is an intern with a username and password and a little time to search and almost anyone can hit pay dirt. The most recent example is the Albuquerque Tribune which found dozens of pictures online of University of New Mexico athletes drinking and/or saying things they probably shouldn't. The embarrassed athletic department at NM is investigating the site, including the group "Hard Drinkers, Let's Drink Hard," which featured 28 UNM football players, 11 of whom were under the legal drinking age of 21. (Albuquerque Times) HS Scandal Update: Lady Assistant Principal Cleared of Sex Charges With Football Star, Grade Tampering Charges Continues - Remember Kim Kallenberg, the assistant principal at Powell High School who was accused of having a sexual relationship with a football player who got a scholarship to U of Tenn? Apparently those charges were unfounded. On the other hand, Kallenberg, 36, is still under investigation for alleged grade tampering and "inappropriate conduct." (WATE) |
