Brawl Breaks Out at HS Basketball Game, Cops Use Mace to Break It Up

These brawls at high school basketball games are getting so common, school officials should just plan for them and end the games at half time and hand out mace to all the teachers. This latest incident could have been worse: one of the teens arrested had a handgun fall out of his pants during the melee. Oops! Here's more from the Star Tribune:

St. Paul police arrested a student for possession of a stolen firearm and ticketed a 17-year-old for disorderly conduct after a fight broke out Saturday at a showcase basketball game at Arlington High School.

The Twin City Championship pitted St. Paul Johnson against Minneapolis Washburn.

Police spokesman Pete Crum said Monday that the melee involved fans from both sides and required about 20 officers to quell. A chemical irritant was used, he said, and officers had to work to separate parents and children from the combatants.

An 18-year-old man who identified himself as a Highland Park High School student was arrested after a gun fell out of his waistband during a struggle with police, Crum said. He had not threatened anyone with the weapon, he added.
